Cale’s group had invisibility and soundproofing magic cast on them. Raon remarked that infiltrating the palace was too easy. Even CH was uncomfortable with that since the knights patrolling the palace did not notice them. Raon’s magic can only be detected by a Sword Master, but the only Sword Master in this world was CH, so no one sensed them.
There was black magic cast on the palace, but the regular magic ones were too weak. Ever since the usage of black magic boomed, regular magic declined. So even if there were high-ranking magic circles defending the palace, they could not utilize it properly because of the lack of regular mages. The group then arrived at the emperor’s bedroom.
Five knights were guarding the door. Cale ordered CH to take care of them, and CH let down the blood cultist on the ground. Cale was impressed when CH knocked out the five knights in less than a minute. Cale kicked the blood cultist and asked if he had seen it. He smiled as he knew that the man was just pretending to be unconscious.
The blood cultist did not answer, but Cale could see the man shudder. Cale praised CH for a job well done, and so did Raon. CH smiled before cautiously opening the bedroom door. The group was surprised to see the inside of the bedroom. Raon wanted to steal the stuff here, and CH almost nodded his head unconsciously at the words Raon had said.
CH could not help it as the entire bedroom was sparkling. Everything was decorated in jewels and gold, from the walls to the bed posts. Cale had robbed many places, but he had never seen such a dazzling room. Raon asked Cale if they could just take the entire room like how they took the entire wall with the safe. Raon said that CH cut the wall cleanly back then, so they should cut the walls of the bedroom here too.
Cale turned to CH who avoided his gaze. He tapped CH’s shoulder and said to not do it. Meanwhile, the cheapskate was so mesmerized with the bedroom that he was even willing to clean everything up for free as long as he was given this room. Super Rock tried to calm him down, but to no avail. Cale ignored the two as usual.
Cale ordered CH to break the bed. The most dazzling thing in this room was the bed. The bed posts that reached the ceiling were adorned with gold and jewels. There was gold embroidery in the bedding, and the canopy was strewn with jewels. CH drew his sword and cleanly cut one of the bed posts, taking care to not destroy the gold and jewels as much as possible.
CH quickly caught the bed post he cut and then offered it to Cale. Raon was delighted, but Cale had a confused expression. Cale asked CH on what he was doing, and CH realized from Cale’s expression that something was wrong. Cale pointed out that the entrance to the basement was under the bed, so he had ordered CH to break it since it was hard to move the heavy bed.
CH blinked a few times and eventually realized his misunderstanding. He put down the bed post on the floor and used his sword aura to split the bed into two. Cale used his Wind AP to push away the bed. The iron entrance to the basement was revealed, but there was no locks on it. Cale recalled his conversation with Sanders.
Sanders had said that there was a huge catacomb there. When asked how he knew of that, Sanders laughed and narrated his past. When he was young, the emperor was still a good father to him and his siblings. But rather than having a nostalgic expression as he narrated, Senders had a fearful expression. He was completely fooled by his father until he had played hide-and-seek with Noi.
The child Sanders was close to the emperor that he could freely play inside the imperial palace. That day, he was playing hide-and-seek with Noi. He thought that Noi would not look under their father’s bed, so he crawled under the bed to hide. Thus, he found the entrance and entered it out of curiosity. The entrance door was made of wood at that time, so his child self could easily lift the door.
There he saw his father and Redok Huayans. Redok greeted him, and the emperor gave him a tour of the catacombs. But it was at that time that the emperor’s treatment of him changed. The emperor had said that if he did not want to die, he should not speak about this place. The child Sanders realized then that his father was crazy.
Back to the present, CH lifted the entrance door and they saw a passage with a ladder leading downwards. CH climbed down the ladder first and Raon used his magic to illuminate the passage. Cale kicked the blood cultist who CH had placed down. Cale knew that the man was already awake and pretending to be unconscious.
He said that if the man continued to pretend, he would be thrown down the passage. Thus, the blood cultist stood up. He saw the rose gold electric current surrounding Cale, and Raon who had dispelled his invisibility. Cale ordered him to go down, and the man could only sigh as he climbed down the ladder. Cale and Raon followed him afterwards.
Cale said that the basement was around the size of the imperial palace, and CH was surprised at those words. CH thought that perhaps the basement did not only contain treasures and Jiangshi. Cale explained that this place was a catacomb. CH was nervous as he thought that this place was dangerous. There was no lock in the entrance, so there must be lots of traps and obstacles here.
He thought of taking the lead while Raon would cast a shield. But as CH was about to step forward, he heard Cale calling the blood cultist. It was the voice Cale used when arguing with someone. Cale placed one hand on the blood cultist’s shoulder and asked if he had been here before. The man did not reply, so Cale said that he had definitely been here before since there was Jiangshi here.
The blood cultist flinched at those words, and Cale continued to speak. Cale said that there were lots of traps here. One could die from simply walking through. Sanders had said that the emperor had guided him back then and disabled the traps. He was only a child at that time, so he did not remember the various traps here.
The blood cultist had goosebumps as Cale said that the man knew how to navigate this place. Cale ordered the man to take the lead. If he did not want to die, he should go and disable the traps. The blood cultist still remained silent, so Cale told him to not complicate things. Cale said that he would bring him too when their group would head to the Central Plains.
The blood cultist mentally wished that he should have remained unconscious. However, Cale threatened that if he fainted, Cale would wake him up every time, so he was not allowed to faint. The blood cultist muttered ‘Damn it,’ and Cale retorted, “What? What did you just say now? Did you say ‘damn it’ to me?” Cale prodded the man to go ahead as they began their exploration of the underground.
